The body is prepared for the process by dressing in a biodegradable sheet.
Organic materials including woodchip, straw and hay are placed into the Leavewell pod.
The body is placed gently onto the bed of straw and hay and the pod is closed so that enhanced organic reduction may begin.
The Leavewell team closely monitor the process using our sensor monitoring system within each pod. The monitoring system indicates when rotation of the pod is required and when the process has completed. The whole process takes 5-7 weeks and occurs within an individual, sealed pod.
Once Enhanced Organic Reduction has completed, any non organic material such as artificial joints are removed and recycled where possible. Similar to other methods such as cremation, remaining bones or teeth are reduced and then reintroduced to the soil for the curing process which takes 6-8 weeks.
The final soil product, approximately 1 cubic metre, is distributed according to family wishes. Family can have all of the soil or smaller quantities with options for the remaining soil to be donated to local conservation initiatives.
